Solana Gambling Explained: Network and SOL Basics

What Solana actually is
Solana is a public blockchain, best thought of as a shared logbook that thousands of independent computers around the world keep copies of and constantly check against each other, instead of one bank or company holding the only copy. Each of those independent computers is called a validator; when someone sends a payment, validators check that it is genuine and add it to the shared logbook, the way a notary checks and stamps a document, except thousands of notaries have to agree before the stamp counts. SOL is the network's own asset. It pays the small fees for using the logbook, can be sent from one person to another, and can be locked up, or staked, to help fund and secure the validators that keep the whole system running. Developers can also build their own apps and tokens on top of Solana, the same way app developers build apps on top of a phone's operating system rather than building a phone from scratch.
How the network orders transactions
Behind the scenes, Solana combines two techniques, proof of stake and proof of history, to help thousands of validators quickly agree on the order transactions happened in, similar to how a group of people watching the same race need an agreed-on finishing order before anyone gets a medal. You do not need to understand either technique to use Solana safely. What matters in practice is this: your wallet signs a transaction, meaning it attaches a digital signature that proves the request really came from you, validators process that signed request, and the result is written to the shared logbook where anyone can check it independently.
Why speed and low fees matter
Every Solana transaction costs a small network fee, typically a fraction of a cent, paid to the validators for including your transaction in the shared logbook. That fee goes to the network, not to your wallet app and not to the casino. The low fee makes small transfers and test payments practical, and Solana usually confirms a transaction in about a second, so you are not left wondering for long whether a correctly addressed transfer went through. Neither the low fee nor the fast confirmation guarantees that an exchange, merchant or casino credits your account immediately, though; every receiving service can add its own processing and review time on top of that.
